How to interact with ArcGIS

Question: Our end product in most cases will be an ESRI geodatabase, can you provide information on how we could import/export data between Horus and ESRI products?

Horus software supports the common spatial type as Spatial lite, DWG, shapefiles etc

Figure 1 Support spatial types

These spatial type can be used in the in the Horus software and will be displayed on the map (left panel) and projected in the 360 view (right panel) as shown in figure 2

However for editing the Horus software uses the spatial lite database for editing the data. Within the Horus software it is possible to create new layers and designing the attribute schema. An other option is to convert the spatial layer to a spatial lite database.

From Horus software to ArcGIS

Figure 3 Spatial lite database as seen in ArcCatalog

As spatial lite is the format which the Horus software uses for editing features in the 360 view the following actions are supported.

Since 10.2 ArcGIS supports the spatial lite database, however ArcGIS only supports one geometry type per spatial lite database (ie only a point, line or polygon per database). By using only one geometry type in the spatial lite database ArcGIS ArcCatalog can directly read this data and convert it to a enterprise geodatabase.

When using multiple geometry types in the spatial lite database, which is a capability of the horus software, it is not possible to directly connect with the ArcGIS software to that database.

However the Horus software uses an export function to, for example, shapefile. When te export function detects more then one geometry type it will create a folder and stores the different geometries in that folder (see figure 4)

From ArcGIS to Horus software

Figure 1 shows the different file types which are supported in the Horus software. When adding the layer to the Horus software there is an option to choose the Action. Options are adding the layer to the Horus map, merge that layer with an other layer or to convert it to a new Spatial Layer. This last option can be used edit actions are needed.

Interaction between Horus and ArcGIS

Based on the information/work proces several implementations are possible to interact between the 2 programs. For editing it is possible to combine version with export to shapefile in order to edit in the Horus software and keeping the edits synchronized with the enterprise geodatabase.

Viewing the spatial data is always possible.
